Defensible Space
Treating the immediate area surrounding your mountain home is an important aspect – and most often the first step taken – in mitigating potential wildfire damage. In addition, insurance companies often require Defensible Space prescriptions before issuing any wildfire insurance policy.
We know that the visual appeal of the cabin is important to the landowner. Nonetheless, due to wildfire risk the landowner must take part in a balancing act between ‘hazards’ and ‘aesthetics’. Every tree within one hundred feet of the home is carefully considered. Trees that tip the scales in the direction of ‘hazard’ are removed, along with all ladder fuels and all ground debris.
