Drainage issues occur around buildings and roads. The reason why is two-fold: the only reason that drainage matters in these areas is because we want them to remain flat, but, the very act of flattening the area is what causes run-off issues, whether seasonally or due to storm.
Sometimes a simple grading job is all that is needed to fix simple drainage issues; this would include establishing the main grade, in addition to properly placed water dips to channel excess water. If the issue is greater, either due to the size of area or steepness of grade, then culverts and drains may be necessary.
